Have you ever come across a work colleague or friend who would not let you borrow their pen because it was their favourite pen? People grow attached to pens as they use them. They become un-separable in the work place and at home. This is the power that pens can have over us and it is exactly that which makes promotional pens such an excellent investment for small businesses. They are great value for money because they are used often and promote your products,Promotional Pens Are Great For Promoting Your Small Business Articles services and/or facilities each time they do!

Generally speaking, there are two types of pens to consider when you begin to look for pens to promote your company.

Plastic Pens: Cheap plastic pens are great for getting your name out and about with the general public and large quantities of business people. The good quality plastic pens can write for quite a while as many are supplied with jumbo sized ink refills that write exceptionally well. These types of pens can be used very successfully at trade shows, exhibitions, conferences, point of sale and simply handed out to your customers or clients when they visit you at your offices. I usually recommend staying away from the really cheap pens unless you are purchasing hundreds of thousands for a large bank or insurance company etc. Really cheap pens are volume promoters that people rarely use after a couple of uses. They serve a purpose at the time they are received but they are then tossed in the bin. When purchasing plastic pens, try to find pens you enjoy writing with as this will yield much better results and give your business the respect it deserves.

Metal Gift Pens: Metal pens are available quite inexpensively especially those that are generic brands. There are also a lot of name brand pens such as Parker, Cross, Waterman and Lamy that are considerably more expensive. I often recommend purchasing a small quantities of good quality metal pens to give away to your top customers. Your big customers can also receive the odd plastic pen from you but you want to ensure they also have a metal gift pen that they really enjoy using. It is worth noting that people usually like to write with heavier pens with black ink refills. There are a lot of light weight aluminium pens on the market but you should test them before making a large purchase and compare them to the heavier, more expensive models. At the end of the day, you need to purchase gift pens that are within your budget and even the aluminium pens are better quality than most plastic pen.

The good thing about metal pens is that you usually do not need to purchase them in large quantities so you will not need to break the bank to give your top customers a nice gift that they will love, use often and remember you by.
