I’ve been up all night. I have to give a toast to my sister’s wedding tomorrow. And since, for the longest time, she’s only my family, writing a speech for her and her husband-to-be is not easy.
Ladies
and gentlemen, good evening. Tonight’s event, I ______ (state name), am given
the task to speak in front to all of you. Yesterday, I thought I’ll make it
through. Never did I realized that standing here in front of you dashing ladies
and hunk (make sounds with throat) men, I’ll be almost speechless and filled
with awesome nervous. Haha!!
Anyway,
I knew ____ (groom) way back in college. We share the same room, and
coincidentally, we took the same course. We were each other’s friend, enemy,
and accomplice mostly to anything. Then one day, this hunk here (pointing to
groom) woke me up in the middle of the night, telling me he met the girl he’s
going to marry. And I was like, “Okay, best wishes man. Can I now go back to
sleep?” The next day, he dragged me in the canteen to see “her”. So off we
went. And when I saw “her”, I told myself, “Ahuh! So she’s the reason this
monkey woke me up last night!” From then on, this monkey “stalked” this
beautiful lady here (pointing to bride) until finally, finally, finally, she said
yes!
But
seriously, this guy right here (walk behind the groom) is such a good catch. He
used to be the most dedicated guy I have ever known – dedicated to studies, to
work, and to his girl. A responsible son, man, I know he’ll be a responsible
family guy soon. Girl, (talking to bride) you’re lucky, as much as I know he’s
also lucky to have you (smile). He’s handsome, so he’s a compliment to your
beauty (wink!).
So
today, with the help of their parents, everything was set for their big day, a
big thank you for the awesome event I might say. I congratulate the parents and
everyone who made this day happen as it should be, and I congratulate most
especially the groom and the bride for finding each other. May you two have a
happy and fulfilled marriage, take care of each other. Everyone, let us toast
for both of them (raises glass).
Growing up, I was always known as the affluent speaker in my circle of friends. Everyone knows me as someone who can speak to anyone and make a fun and interesting conversation out of nowhere. That is probably why I am always being asked to give speeches with best man jokes at weddings, graduations, and celebrations of other kinds. My specialty is weddings.
