Choosing an Era for Vintage Inspired Wedding Dresses

When you're scouting for ideas for authentic vintage inspired wedding dresses, choosing a specific era might be a good starting point.

Choosing vintage for your wedding theme doesn't simply mean putting on any old dress! Brides can choose to wear either authentic dresses from a specific era or opt to have vintage inspired wedding dresses made to suit their own design. These gowns not only look elegant and classic, but they transcend any current trend in modern fashion. If you choose the right seamstress or designer, it can be even more special. But while the Roaring Twenties era is always a big hit to emulate, there are other eras that spawned some amazing trends in bridal gowns.

Elegant 50s

The 50s are responsible for perhaps one of the most iconic bridal gowns of all time - Grace Kelly's. When it comes to vintage inspired wedding dresses, hers has always been on top of people's list of inspirations. Even the bridal gown of the Duchess of Cambridge draws inspiration from it, as evidenced in the sweetheart neckline and delicate lacework. The 50s were also a time of shorter hemlines and gloves were standard fashion. It was all about elegance in style and execution, and brides who want something simple but unforgettable will get a lot of inspiration from this decade. As a bonus, because these classic trends have a timeless elegance, it's easy to update them and give them a modern twist.

Embellished 60s

The 60s were all about metallics, and this fashion trend was incorporated in bridal gowns as well. But, as a modern bride, you don't necessarily have to look for an authentic 1960s metallic gown, as good designers can create vintage inspired wedding dresses from the 60s. This decade was characterised by its rebelliousness - doing away with the traditional bridal look and opting for pillbox hats instead of veils, and high-waisted empire lines. Many bridal gowns from the 60s also featured intricate embellishments.

Non-traditional 70s

To say that the 1970s were non-traditional would be an understatement. One of the things the 70s are known for is the huge range of fashion styles and trends, from simple to over-the-top – surprisingly, it all seems to work. Many vintage inspired wedding dresses that channel the 1970s may be short frocks, or are punk-themed or even multi-coloured.

Overall, choosing an era from which you are going to draw inspiration does take some research and consideration. Not only does it need a careful deliberation process to find what era you most identify with, but you also have to think how your entire event theme is going to fit. But for the non-traditional bridePsychology Articles, vintage definitely offers a lot of fun and individuality.
