Stages of Breaking Up - How to Avoid the Last Stage

If your relationship seems to be hitting more bumps in the road than you would like, are you passing through the stages of breaking up? This will be easier to fix now than if you let it go unattended and your partner splits with you. Here is help to avoid the final stage and save your marriage or relationship.

Break ups do not usually come out of nowhere; typically a relationship goes through several stages of breaking up before it is all over. If you fear your relationship is in trouble, or even in one of those stages now, learn how to avoid the last stage of a break up before it is too late.

If you are suddenly hit with a request for a break up or divorce that you did not see coming, chances are you were not paying enough attention to your relationship. Maybe it is not too late to avoid breaking up if you act fast.

How is your relationship going right now, are you spending any time together? What are you doing to attempt quality time with your spouse or significant other where you have a chance to show that you care about him or her and the relationship?

If you are fighting all of the time now, you need to end that cycle. Fights require two parties, and if you can resolve to maintain your cool you might be able to stop that destructive cycle before it is too late. Make sure you are not the one firing off accusations and trying to place blame.

This can stop the slide through the stages of breaking up.

Never fight just because you enjoy making up. At some point that will backfire and someone will not be interested in making up. Try to resolve conflict in the relationship with mature discussion, understanding and compromise. Show that you care for the other persons needs and point of view.

Try to give more than you take. In fact, insist on it. Make sure that you are always offering something to them, in the form of help, consideration and small tasks you can do to make their life easier.

How about trust in the relationship? They may or may not trust you, but what are you indicating to your partner? If you show suspicion for everything they do or are second guessing them all of the time you will show your lack of trust and drive a wedge in the relationship.

Is your behavior trustworthy? Maybe you do not feel you have to call when you will be late or just to update them on your schedule, but it could be a simple gesture that is appreciated more than you know and build up the trust factor in your marriage or relationship.

A lot can be known about the health of a relationship by examining the hobbies of each of you and what interest the other has in your hobbies and vice versa. Maybe you love classic cars and your partner could care less, but do they attend shows with you and use the time to enjoy people watching and just being with you?

When was the last time you went antique shopping because he or she wanted to and were just a good sport about it? These are the types of unselfish behavior that can really add to a relationship.

When these types of mutual respect and consideration are not shown, you can be speeding through the stages of breaking up faster than you realize.

Things have really gone down hill if your spouse or partner has asked for a trial separation. Sometimes this is his or her way of sending you a signal and getting your attention, other times they just do not have the guts to tell you they want a divorce or break up.

Either way, you can agree to the separation, but ask them to participate in counseling with you. Yes, that can be expensive, but ultimately worth it. Divorce, I can assure you, is much more expensive.
