A wedding is stressful enough. Keeping track of invitations should be the least of your worries. Here are some tips to stay organized.

Before you let all of the intense planning and organization that is necessary for wedding planning get you into a tizzy, stop and take a few deep breaths. As long as you manage to work out your own system for staying organized and give yourself plenty of time for these preparations, this should be a fun and fairly easy process. The wedding invitations are going to be the first part of it, so some special care should be paid here to make sure that all your guests are notified in a fun and refreshing way that you are about to be married.

To begin with, be sure to send out your wedding invitations with plenty of time for your guests to respond to you. If you are choosing a destination wedding, this is even more important, because your guests will need extra time to make their travel plans. This RSVP information that you receive is important because you will need this to make an accurate final guest count, which is necessary for the reception plans. Always plan for a few extra guests than who you originally might be anticipating, and always order more wedding invitations than there are people on the guest list.

It can be quite helpful to keep a tally or spreadsheet of some sort that has a way for you to keep track of the guest list, including when you sent out the invitations. Then you can mark off the RSVP’s that you receive, and also include another column for when you send out the thank you cards, which is the final step in the whole planning process. This list can be computerized, or simply kept by hand. In either case however it is quite helpful to have your information laid out before you, to be able to keep tabs on everything that is happening.

One detail that should not be overlooked on your wedding invitations is the fact that all of the pertinent information that guests need should be right there on the invite. This is helpful both for you and your guests, to make sure that everyone is on the same page and knows where they are supposed to be and when. Be sure to double check the invitation design before it gets sent to the printers, because having to reorder another batch would be a quite costly mistake. Keeping just a few logistics like these in mind can make the whole process run a lot more smoothly.
