"Every achiever that I have ever met says, 'My life turned around when I began to believe in me.'" --Dr. Robert Schuller
We’ve heard it time and again. Believe and it will Be.
And many of us ask, “But how?”
We may have heard from others that we cannot do this or that. We may have been caught up in Perfection which holds us back too. There are many reasons we give ourselves that we cannot Believe in ourselves.
Have you tried something once, and not achieved it, so you stopped completely?
I want to share a little secret with you.
You don’t have to Believe immediately.
What?
Yes. You don’t have to believe immediately. You can start right where you’re at.
Sometimes it’s difficult to leap from where you are at right to Believing wholly and completely.
AND there is a way to move from where you are to that place of belief.
It’s called a Bridge Belief.
Bridges are used all the time to get us from one side of the river to the other. We use them to cross obstacles.
And we can use them in the same way with Beliefs.
What are Bridge Beliefs?
They are a belief somewhere in the middle of where our belief is now and where we want our belief to be.
For example, let’s say you have a newsletter you want to start. You want 1000 people on your newsletter list. Right now you have none. A bridge belief would be that you have 10 people on your newsletter list. It is possible. If you invite your friends and family to join your newsletter, that 10 people could fill up pretty quickly.
Here’s an exercise you can use to bridge your way towards your desired beliefs.
Take out a piece of paper, and make three columns. Label each column as follows:
1. My current Belief.3. My desired Belief.2. Bridge Belief
I put those in that order for a reason.
First, write in your current belief. It’ll automatically be a 10 on a scale of 1-10 for believability.
Second, write your desired belief in the 3rd column. Also write in it’s believability on a scale of 1-10. 10 is fully believing, of course.
The third step is where we play with Bridging Beliefs. Before we go too far into this, I want to let you know that sometimes it takes a few bridges to get from where we are to where we want to go. Please give yourself permission to do this.
In the 2nd column, you can toy with what beliefs are between your now belief and your desired belief.
In the example I gave above, that was 10 subscribers to your newsletter. On a scale of 1 to 10, how believable is that? If you invite your friends and family to join your list, it should be pretty easy! So that could be a 10 for believability.
In other words, inch your way forward to your belief. This week it could be 10 subscribers. Next week, it could be 20 subscribers. If you asked each of your friends and family to invite one person, this is completely doable!
Do you see where I’m going with this? It’s much like chunking down your goals into smaller pieces to make it more manageable. You’re chunking down your beliefs into smaller pieces to make it more believable.
Play with this for a while. I’m confident you’ll find your beliefs slowly transforming, and you achieving incredible things!
I believe in you.
