Those who get something for nothing from a place they have chosen to do small business with, and spend money with, like to feel as though they are getting a little something in return for their loyalty. These sorts of customers tend to develop warm feelings toward the business owners that hand out promotional devices, and will be more likely to return or become a repeat visitor in the future. Repeat visitors turn into repeat customers, and therefore more money for the industry.

Second, the customer will, while feeling the positive effects of receiving a useful, free item, promote the corporate sector by word of mouth to friends and family members. Those people have the potential to become customers as well, even if it is just to come into the small business and receive a similar free solution. At that point the cycle begins again, with the secondary customer having the potential to become a repeat customer who promotes the company to others.

Finally, the customers who do receive the promotional products will likely take them out into public, where others will see the corporation name and contact information on display. For example, an individual who receives a free, quality water bottle might take that bottle to the gym or track to work out.
