Ackquille Jean Pollard (born August 4, 1994),[3] known professionally as Bobby Shmurda, is an American rapper, songwriter, and felon. He signed a deal with Epic Records after his song "Hot Nigga" peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014.[4][5] His debut EPShmurda She Wrote, was released on November 10, 2014.

On December 18, 2014, New York City Police arrested Shmurda, and he was charged with conspiracy to murder, weapons possession, and reckless endangerment.[6][7] In 2016, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years in prison, which was reduced to five years after receiving credit for the two years he already served awaiting trial.[8] On September 21, 2020, Shmurda was reportedly denied parole, which originally meant he would serve his full sentence.[9] However, after a review by the Department of Corrections, he was granted a conditional release, meaning he will be released on February 23, 2021, given the rest of his sentence is to be served on parole.[10][11]

In 2018, Shmurda was featured on rapper 6ix9ine's song "Stoopid", which peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. He and Rowdy Rebel are the founders and considered the pioneers of Brooklyn drill music.[12][13]
