It is no longer news that LED lights are more energy-efficient and durable than incandescent lights. According to research studies, these lights are 25 times more durable and use 75% less energy than incandescent lighting systems. Subsequently, they have become the most favored lighting option for illuminating residential homes, business areas, holiday parties, and many other spaces.

The best part about this, yet, is that you can install the lights at any location. It could be inside your home or outside, in your yard and driveway. LED strip lighting systems do not just stop at illuminating your home and making it look nice; it also contributes some extra security advantage to the area where it is installed.

Because installing LED strip lighting systems can be relatively complicated, many people are often confused about what to do or how to go about it. Luckily for you, though, this article will provide a step-by-step guide to help make the installation of your LED lights a breeze.

Choose the Adequate Outdoor LED Strip Light for Your Property

When considering LED lights for your home, there are three options to pick from. They include the weatherproof, non-weatherproof, and waterproof options.

Non-weatherproof LED lights are best suited for indoor use, weatherproof lights are suited for outdoor use, and waterproof lights are most suitable for illuminating pools and other water prone areas.

When installing LED strip lights on your property, it is essential to observe the Ingress Protection (IP) rating. IP ratings are measurement systems that determine the level of solids and water an LED light can deal with before complications arise.

If you want to install strip lighting outside your house, it is best advised to go for lights with IP ratings that are 65 or higher. Here are some other considerations you should make:

Length of the Light

Length is one of the most important considerations to make when planning to install LED strip lights. It would help if you found out the length that will be most appropriate for the space you wish to Illuminate. When measuring the area, ensure to cover the corners. You will need to wrap around and the gaps or elevation fluctuations along the path you seek to brighten.

After measuring the total surface, you want to illuminate, compare the measurement with the LED strip's maximum run. Strips with higher voltage often carry a higher maximum run.

Brightness and Color of the Light

After making all the technical considerations for installing LED strip lights, you can now get to the fun aspects. There are dozens of colors and brightness levels you can choose from when planning to install LED lights on your property.

You can go for strip lights designed in a single color, a mixture of few colors, or go for color-changing light options. LED strip lights that change colors are useful for conveying several moods. They also come with wireless remote systems to allow you to control the color-changes seamlessly.

Installing the LED Lights

Once you have made all the above-discussed considerations and gathered everything you need for the installation, then it is time to start installing your LED strip lights. The difficulty levels in doing this can vary, according to the strip lights you choose.

If you go for adhesive LED strip lights, you will not have much trouble installing them. All you need to do is pull off the lights' backing and stick to the surface you want. Of course, it is essential to clean the surface before applying the strips.

When applying LEF strip lights on bumpy surfaces, use adhesion promoters to make them stick. You can also use mounting strips to attach your lights if there are no adhesive light strips. For this option, you can choose between adhesive mounting strips or screw mounting strips, depending on the smoothness of the surface you wish to light up.
