Squirrels are cute and furry little creatures.  That is,Common Squirrel Problems Articles as long as they stay in the trees where they belong.  They can cause a wide range of problems for homeowners though.  Keep reading to learn about some of the most common squirrel problems.

The main problem homeowners experience with squirrels result from their chewing habits.  Their teeth constantly grow, so they need to chew constantly to keep them under control.  This means that they will chew through virtually anything.

If they have built a nest in your home, then they will need a source of water.  If they cannot find one quickly, they may just chew through your water pipes to get it.  Then, you will have to call a plumber in to fix the problem.

Structural damage is also one of the main squirrel problems.  If there is not already an opening they can use to enter your home, then they can just make their own.  They especially love to make a new home in your attic or soffits.

Squirrels commonly chew through wiring too.  They may just electrocute themselves which commonly happens.  However, this also increases the risk of starting a fire in your home.  If they have already built up a sizable dry nest inside, this further increases the fire risk.

Your chimney is responsible for dispelling smoke and dangerous fumes from your home.  Squirrels can build a nest there which can cause an obstruction and keep your chimney from doing its job effectively.  To help combat this problem, it is best to have a chimney cap installed.

Many homeowners are nice to birds and erect a feeder in their yards.  However, squirrels commonly intercept the food and eat it instead.  You can help prevent this problem by buying a special squirrel-proof bird feeder.

If you have a problem with squirrels around your home, then it is best to look into having them trapped and removed.  Calling a professional in to do the job is often the best method.  You certainly should not try to chase them away because they are very quick creatures.

These are some of the most common squirrel problems homeowners can experience.  They can chew through your electrical wiring and increase the risk of a fire hazard in your home.  The pests may also start chewing through your plumbing.  You also do not want them to build a nest in your chimney because it will keep it from doing its job efficiently.
