The most distributed and indeed “beloved” fonts nowadays are those ones on the currency. These inscriptions truly unite many nations and countries,Euro Symbol Articles especially if to consider international currencies. However, design of such fonts is a responsible and complex assignment for graphic designers.
The common European symbol was selected after considering public opinion. In particular, ten proposals of Euro sign were introduced and Europeans have chosen two possible options.  The name of exact author remains classified information, but, in contrast, it is known that euro design was performed by the team of four members. The official version is challenged by Arthur Eisenmenger - formerly a leading graphic designer of the European Community, which states that he created this character as a generic symbol of Europe. All in all, Euro was officially introduced on December 12th 1996. Since this date, many graphic designers have also contributed to an image of euro in various fonts.
Each part of the symbol has its meaning, according to European Commission. Firstly, it is based on the symbol of Greek epsilon that brings up an idea of significance of the Old World and European civilization. “E” means Europe, secondly. And the last, but not the least, is two horizontal strokes, which points out the stability European nations continue to preserve.
The main problem with this sign is that it is too hard and a little prone to typefaces’ variations. To avoid an issue,, the European Commission had to rewrite the rules of use of the mark, It is resulted in announcement that it is just an official sign, but there are some features requiring to be presented when this sign is drawn for a particular font. Therefore font variations often are completely opposite to the official specification. For instance, such typefaces as High Tower Text and Lexington embedded one horizontal stroke instead of conventional two. Generally, it is designed on the basis of “C” character, written with two traditional horizontal strokes. The other achievement of the European Commission is a design of euro logotype with an indication of precise proportions and colors of front and background.
It is also interesting to know that in different languages the location of euro sign in correspondence to numbers also differs. It is officially recommended to put symbol before the number, but some states are adhered to writing traditions adapted during previous currency. It turns out that euro sign does not unites European countries completely.
