Ground Heat Pumps

Pool owners will eventually have a decision to make when it comes time to select a pump for the pool; some homeowners opt for the traditional, above ground pump while others opt for a heat pump ground device.  The latter of the two different pumps offers myriad advantages, but upon initial investment may prove a bit more costly.

Inside a heat pump ground source device are a number of components that force the pool waters to heat; along with a heat exchanger, the manufacturers of heat pumps also include a condenser and a special compressor handles a type of refrigerant.  A ventilator is also integrated inside heat pumps which are installed underground as well.  Sensors monitor the temperatures of the pool water and when the water temp changes, dipping below the pool owner’s preset preferences, the heat pump will automatically start up via automated processes and begin to heat the pool’s waters.  When the temp returns to the pool owner’s desired temp, the pump will then automatically stop heating the pool until the next time the waters need to be heated.

Since the entire heating process is automated, the homeowner can heat a pool with little hassle.  These devices depend upon using air from the environment which is drawn through the installed ventilation system.  The air is later compressed which forces the air to be heated.  The air heats up the water, passes through a heat exchanger, and then pumps the water into the homeowner’s pool.  While the initial investment for an in ground heat pump can cost anywhere from $3000 to $4000, homeowners gain much of the initial investment back via superlative energy savings.
