We all know how much fun camping and traveling via RV can be. Yes, camping of all kinds is great fun and a big adventure (I’ve done it plenty of times), but what’s even better is when you can go camping and enjoy all of the fun activities that go along with it all while being able to go back to the comfort and security of an RV.
A plush mattress, your own bathroom, an actual kitchen – sounds like heaven compared to roughing it out in a tent.
When you head out on the road prepared to go camping in a tent, there are a number of different factors you have to take into consideration. For example, are you going to bring a mat? If the ground is cold and hard, a mat would be handy to use as a cushion to make sleeping more comfortable. Do you plan on cooking for yourself or will you be eating out? If you plan to cook for yourself, you’ll need to look into getting travel-sized pots and pans and a portable gas stove, among other things. Another important thing to take into consideration is weather. Weather is unpredictable and uncontrollable.
Two summers ago, I went camping in Utah and came back to my campsite late one night after hiking up to Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. On my drive back to camp, thunder and lighting lit up the skies and soon thereafter a downpour occurred. This was my first time camping alone and I tried remembering if my tent was waterproof or not. Are tents even waterproof? I know I had a camouflage tarp with me, but I wasn’t sure if I was going to need it. Sure enough, when I got back to my site, I unzipped the entrance to my tent and there it was… a lake. More accurately, a large puddle had developed in the corners of my tent. Fortunately, however, it missed my sleeping bag and mat. I quickly dug through my car, found the tarp, and did my best to cover my tent with the tarp using bungee cords. It wasn’t the prettiest sight around, but it worked. I then had to use my only towel to soak up all that water. It was an adventure, for sure.
Finally, I was able to step into my pajamas and get to sleep. However, that wasn’t the end of my night. I don’t know how long I was asleep for - it was still dark outside - but I woke up at some point that night (or early am) to what felt like the loudest noise I had ever heard. I was a little nervous, at first. It took me a minute to realize that the noise I was hearing was the sound of my tarp blowing in the wind. If this woke me up, it was sure to wake up others. I rushed outside of my tent as fast as I could and took down the tarp I worked so hard on fastening to my tent. Hopefully, it wouldn’t rain again.
Now, what would you rather do? Camp in an RV or in a tent? While both are great options, RV camping offers a much more relaxing camping experience in comparison to camping in a tent.
