Make a Statement with a Messenger Bag

Once again we find ourselves halfway through the summer holidays. Some of us are keen for the kids to go back to school, others are still enjoying the quieter roads with no 'school run' clogging up the streets. The shop windows are full of 'back to school' offers and my favourite bit of new school kit was getting a new bag. School bags are great when they're new, but they do get more than their fair share of wear and tear and seldom last the full academic year.

Mine, and everybody else’s school bag was a statement; whether it's an over sized sports bag or a utility rucksack, the record bag for those who never want the 90's to end or the latest line in trendy school messenger bags; your bag says something about you. I had everything including the retro khaki army style bag, the rock climber's rucksack and the over sized cricket bag. Not that I ever played cricket or went rock climbing, it's just that my school presented an image I wanted to project that particular year.

School bags come in all shapes and sizes and reflect a multitude of styles. Retro bags are still very popular, as are branded sports ones, however there's a new style of bag on the block which is proving incredibly popular and that's the range of school messengers. Messenger bags are similar to the record bag which was popular in the 1990's; when everybody wanted to look like the next big DJ.

The way messenger bags differ from record bags is that they're far more versatile; featuring more pockets and compartments for books, papers, pens and other items of stationery. Some also feature an bespoke compartment for a mobile phone and calculator, meaning no more routing about in the bottom of your school bag for what you need, as there's a place for everything, even a lap top computer in some designs.

Many of the messenger bags available are made from tough Italian leather or thick canvass and are built to last. The beauty of school messengers, aside from the multitude of compartments within, is they're unisex and can be used long after your school days are over. Messenger style bags are quickly becoming ubiquitous throughout both the student and working population. School messengers have replaced the rucksack as the most popular choice of school bags amongst the youth of today, and for good reason; they simply tick all the boxes.
