Pools Come in All Shapes and Sizes

Do you think a pool would make a welcome addition to your yard? It might, and it might also make your property values increase. As you are considering adding one, keep in mind that pools come in all shapes and sizes. You should easily be able to find one that fits not only your space requirements, but also your tastes. 

Traditional Designs

Traditional designs typically start with the rectangle and branch out from there. These pools have the standard deep and shallow ends and a very predictable design. Variations may include a radius rectangle with curved sides or the Grecian design with the octagonal makeup. Because these are fairly symmetrical, they can come in a wide range of sizes, including something as small as 12 feet across and 24 feet long. These are ideal for people with limited space.

An oval is another traditional design. It is built off of the basic idea of the rectangle, but with a fully curved design. This is slightly less common than the rectangle, but still popular. A completely curved design with be slightly more expensive. 

Double Roman

The Double Roman pool is the luxury of luxuries in the world of in-ground pools. This pool has a rectangular base shape, but at each end it has a curved area that juts out from the basic shape. You can easily incorporate landscaping and lighting around this regal design. You can almost picture the pillars of the Roman era lining your backyard when you choose this option.

Circular

A circular pool is traditionally an above ground option, but you can find in-ground options as well. These are less traditional and more costly, but they can be quite a bit of fun! It is difficult to create a shallow and deep end on a circular pool, however.

L-Shaped Pools

Imagine a pool in the traditional “L” shape. This allows you to add some more swimming space and character to your outdoor area, without an excessive amount of extra water. You can slightly bend the short end of the “L” to create a whimsical and inviting design. If you curve all of the lines, you can create a pool that looks more like a natural lake or pond than a man-made swimming area. 

Considerations

As you are looking into a pool for your yard, keep in mind that the more whimsical you get with the design, the more it will likely cost. A traditional rectangular or oval design is going to be the most affordable, but also the most boring, option. If you want character, you will pay more.

Other factors that will affect the cost of your pool are its size and the type of soil you have. If your soil is particularly hard, you will pay more. Also, if there is a lot of leveling and other prep work that has to happen, you will pay more. Access to the area can be a cost factor as well. Finally, the materials used to create pools will affect how much they cost.
