Conure Parrots as Pets

For the most part all conure birds share similar personalities and make good pet parrots it's more the color and size of the different species that is the deciding factor for someone that wants to buy a parrot.

Size - These birds are usually measured from the beak to the tip of the tail to determine their size. Their average size is usually around 11.8 inches. The Green Cheek Conure is a perfect example with a size of 12 inches.

Weight - Usually the average weight of one Conure Parrot is around 2.2 pounds which is equal to 1 kilogram.

Other Information to Remember

• The measurement of their tails is usually the same as that of their bodies.
• They will need larger cage to allow them to have activities even in captivity.
• They need to be free from the cage at regular times as well.
• Ideally, the cage must allow them to spread their wings without touching the sides.
• Bar spacing for the cage must be enough to let them climb or perch without getting caught in between or risk escaping. The ideal measurement is around half an inch.

First, they are great companions because they almost last a lifetime of one owner (average lifespan is about 30 years or more. Although, there are some disadvantages to this as well. The longer a loud parrot stays in the home, the longer you will have to put up with this behavior as well. These birds are also easy to handle because their diet and care is really not that complicated. Among the bird species, they are considered the calmest.

Other considerations

There are things you need to remember as well. Since these birds are highly sociable, they necessitate adequate time and attention from you. They can get bored if they do not receive the attention they need and they may develop unacceptable habits over time. So, be sure that you have some time to spare.
