What if you have a gifted child? The following traits of gifted children will help you to determine whether your child is one of these special ones or not.

There are traditional traits of gifted children which fall under a gift in verbal, spatial, or numerical reasoning, but there are also gifted children that show other traits that don’t fall within these traditional roles.

The above traits of verbal, numerical, and spatial reasoning measure the IQ reading of each person.  An average IQ score is about 100, but when a child’s IQ is much higher than average, he is considered as being gifted. We are talking of scores of about 130 to 150. When children score this high they can usually function at a grade or two above their level. They understand difficult concepts, ideas and theories and look for bigger challenges.

There are also gifted children that score above 180 and these are considered very gifted children.  These are the kids that understand the nuances of algebra and geometry, are musical geniuses at as early an age as four. These children will start showing their gift at an extremely early age, even as early as four. These are the ones that constantly need to be challenged intellectually.

If you are still not sure whether your child is gifted or not, follow the results of a study of traits of gifted children, and if you see in any of these, then you may just have a gifted child.

1.    Gifted children usually have much more active imaginations than non gifted children.
2.    They have a long attention span
3.    These children easily remember past experiences
4.    They learn to speak early on
5.    Intensely curious, and persistent.
6.    Like novelty or new ideas and things
7.    they love numbers and numerical patterns
8.    these children are typically more introverted and solitary
9.    they prefer to be with older children
10.    They love to work
11.    They know they can solve a problem

Not all children are alike and many traits of gifted children are generalized. The way the child develops, his social experiences, and his life at home will affect how his gifts show up. Some children may not show their gifts until they are adolescents, and others will show it immediately.
