Baptism invitations are like any other ceremonial special event invitations. They’re sent out to invite friends and family, churchgoers and co-workers, colleagues and old friends to your very special day for your Christian journey.
Christians everywhere around the world have been getting baptized since the time of Jesus. Christians enjoy the splash in the water as well as the message it carries. Traditionally, it’s been an intimate family event or with fellow Christians. It’s sometimes a new initiation for believers from around the world. Some people prefer to get their children baptized as infants. Some parents object and say that it precludes the child’s right to make his own decision. This latter point is projected in the notion of believer’s baptism because it’s only believers that are getting baptized. Baptism after the fact of belief is a common occurrence amongst Protestants, Baptists, Episcopalians, and other sects. The Roman Catholic Church is a proponent of infant baptism.
So, if you have a lot of Catholic friends, or if you live in a South American country where the population of Catholics is much higher, then, in most cases, a baby photograph is probably going to be appended to your baptism invitation. If you live in North America, the chances of receiving a believer’s baptism invitation are much more dramatic.
Baptism invitations often feature religious imagery inspired by uplifting Biblical passages like David and Goliath, the dove, Samson, and the Resurrection. Christian churchgoers from around the world make up a huge market of prospective buyers for baptism invitations because the event is almost certain to take place in every believer’s life at one point or another. However, the caveat is that some denominations buy more baptism invitations than others. The Church of Christ buys gobs of invitations for their ceremonies because almost all people of that culture go through it at some point in their lives.
