Optimizing your website for the search engine helps to pull organic traffic to your website that you don't have to worry about paying for.  However,Basic SEO Tips to Help Get you Started Articles it isn't easy to achieve a high ranking, especially if you do not really know what you are doing.  Here are a few basic SEO tips to help get you started.

The most important thing to focus on when it comes to basic SEO is keyword research.  What words and phrases would people interested in your site use in the search engines?  These are the keywords that you should try to rank well for.

After finding the appropriate keywords to target, you will need to use them all over your website.  In addition to putting them in the content, they should also be found in the URL, title, and meta description tag.  It's also a good idea to use your keywords in the image names and image alt tags.

As you just learned, you will ideally want to use your keywords in your URLs.  It is important that your URLs be search-friendly too.  If you are using Wordpress, you definitely would not want to leave the permalinks in their default state since users would have no idea what the page is about before clicking on the link in the search engine results pages.

As far as basic SEO is concerned, most of your time will be spent getting links.  You will need to get them from a wide variety of sites.  Just focus on getting these links from websites that are relevant to yours since they will pass along more link juice to your site.

Do not focus on getting only external links though.  Internal links that you create on your own website will be quite helpful too.  Whenever possible, try to link to old content pages from new pages that you create.

Another thing that will help with basic Search Engine Optimization is creating a sitemap.  This is a listing of all of the major sections and pages that are contained on your website.  This not only helps visitors find content that they are looking for, but it will also prove to be quite useful for search engine spiders trying to crawl your entire site.

With all of the effort you will be putting into SEO, you will need to keep track of your rankings to see how your efforts are working out.  Keeping a spreadsheet of your position over time will help considerably.
