As a website owner the thing that you need most to make your site a success is traffic, and the best traffic is from search engines as the person searching is actually looking for you. That is if your site offers them the most relevant information from their enquiry.

For example

If someone searched for cars google will come back with about 511,000,000 results that's over half a billion results. That's a lot of completion for your page,Is SEO possible for the average Webmaster? Articles so the thing to do is to be much more targeted with the key words on your sites pages. If your site is about a particular make or model of car, lets say Chevrolet, that has already narrowed down the search criteria and if you focus pages on different aspects of the car such as engine tuning.

So a search for say “how to tune a 67 Chevy” is much more likely to find your page.

There are many people, me included offering SEO (search engine optimization) services to improve the position of your website in the search engine results. With prices for these services running at between $500 and $5000 a month depending on the amount of work involved, it obviously makes sense to do as much SEO work as you can yourself.

So the first area to look at is on site optimization which is in effect making each page relevant to a specific keyword / phrase you do this by including the keyword/phrase in the title tag of the page, and the description tag of the page. These should be placed as near the beginning of each area as possible. Then you also need to include the same exact word or phrase in the body of the page in headline tags and bold and italic tags.

The next area to look at is the most time consuming because it is not a job you can just do once and forget about. It is link building, search engines look at the amount of links coming to your site to establish how useful the information it contains is. The theory being that the better the information is the more people will link to it. So the more links you have the closer to the top of the results pages your site will come. If the links come from highly ranked pages the more weight that they carry.

Getting backlinks to your site is not a difficult thing, but it is very time consuming, the simplest method is to do a blog search in the subject you are interested in and visit each blog, read a relevant entry, and make a sensible comment, which shows that you have read the article. In the comment box you will be asked for your name, here I would use the keyword/phrase that you want to associate with the page as anchor text. In the next box you are asked for your site address, you want

to put the full address including the http to the page associated with the keyword you used in the name box. You will also be asked for an email address. Make sure that you give a good one as the blog owner might contact you before publishing your comment. With practice you should be able to eight or ten an hour, It is possible to automate this process with a tool designed by Peter Drew,

which will take your key word and site details and register with over one hundred and twenty high ranking sites each run, create accounts with those sites and after confirming the sign up emails will then make posts with the links to your site. After this is complete the tool posts the RSS feeds of all the accounts it has created to top RSS sites for even more links. The software is so effective that it is only recommended to run it on any site every 7 days, so that the search engines do not see unnatural levels of linking activity, of course if you have more than one site, or want to offer the service to others you can run the software as often as you like.
