Sex education that is relevant and provides the right knowledge can help prevent or at least reduce the number of teenage pregnancy cases and other such complications. It is important for the parent or elderly to guide the child about the use of contraception and other methods of avoiding complications along with teaching about the human anatomy. Children are likely to misinterpret sex education as a permission to experiment with sex if they are uneducated and exposed to pornographic materials and unprotected sex. It is important to make sex education as natural as possible. Syllabising sex education in the school may need to be implemented at the level of government and privatised schools. Risky behaviours, such as forced sex, indulging in pornography, physical abuse, etc may lead to early pregnancy. Therefore, building awareness about these must be made a part of the syllabus. Schools and colleges should hold discussions and debates about the important of sex education. If you are a parent willing to impart sex education to your child, all you have to do is be open to all of their questions and answer them without hesitation. Do not put your child’s questions off.
