Importance of Indian Kamasutra

Indian Kamasutra is considered as one of those books which have taken care of almost all the aspects of sexuality. This book was written in 3rd century by the north Indian scholar Vatsayana Mallanaga and is divided into 7 books. Each Kamasutra books has its own significance and covers a different topic. These books not only describe the sexual activities as such but these also help in rediscovering the emotional bondage between people and various other aspects of relationships between men and women. The title of these books means “disposition of pleasure” as sutra means manual or a guide to some topic or something and ‘kama’ means desire. The Kamasutra can be considered as the ancient guide of lovemaking. Once one goes through all the books of Kamsutra, one can find how the social traditions and sexual traditions are reflected in the ancient book of India.

The Indian Kamasutra is divided into seven books and each one talks about a different aspect of life in detail.

• The first book shows how the men and women are created by Brahma. It talks about the three most important things for men such as Dhrama, Artha and Kama.
• The second book show the various types of men based on their lingam and the types of women based on the yoni or genitalia. It has 64 forms of sexual union which people could practice to have maximum pleasure in sex though the choice depends on the individuals.
• The third book of Kamasutra is about marriage and the various rules to be followed after marriage.
• The fourth book explains about the role of wife in a married relationship.
• The fifth book is about the nature of men and women and how their nature varies and what are the various expectations from them in a family.
• The sixth book is about the courtesan and why is this important. This stress on the emotional relationship between the husband and wife.
• The last book is about different ways the men and women could make themselves sexually attractive.

The Indian Kamasutra not only stresses  on the sexual pleasure  of people but it gives lots of importance to the mental connection between individuals, their interests and ideas so that the pleasure could be reflected on the sexual  activity.
