Scientology Volunteer Ministers Disaster Relief in the South

Since that fateful day when hurricane Katrina made her destructive rampage through Louisiana and Mississippi, the media focus has primarily been centered around the physical damage, financial loss and human trauma that have been left in the wake of her fury.

We hear and read about the millions of dollars in donations that have been contributed by various corporations, charitable groups, individuals and governments from around the world.   Considerable attention has also been placed on massive undertakings to clean up and repair the physical damage to property and infrastructure.

However, the human element is far more traumatic, and undoubtedly the most tragic and devastating aspect of the entire disaster. We heard about children displaced from parents and family; hard working, decent citizens who lost everything that they worked a lifetime to achieve; civil unrest.  It is impossible to list all of the different types of personal tragedy that have befallen individuals in this storm-battered area of the U.S.

There was one group very much involved in helping people to cope with the adverse mental and spiritual effects suffered.  It is a team – a worldwide network of Volunteer Ministers, in fact – who answer to the official name of the “Scientology Disaster Response Team.”  Many people of different religions have trained as Volunteer Ministers and joined the teams to help those needing aid in Mississippi and Louisiana.

The Scientology Disaster Response Team’s strong presence in all areas hit by Hurricane Katrina and affected by Rita, has given individuals a way, after first aid was administered, to help a person recover from the shock and trauma of injury, which in turn helps speed recovery.

In an official communiqué urging all civil authorities to avail themselves of effective services provided by the Volunteer Ministers, local sheriff Michael Couvillion of Lafayette, Florida, wrote the following:

“The International Scientology Disaster Response Team has worked at Ground Zero during 9-11, assisting clean-up and aid after the Tsunami, and was a major force in every hurricane to hit Florida in the last three years.  They are experts in handling human misery and assisting the rescue workers and other relief teams to get the job done.

“They should be allowed on any and all lines within Louisiana to further assist in reliev[ing] the devastated survivors and to help us rebuild southeast Louisiana.”

The motto of a Scientology Volunteer Minister is simple:  Something CAN Be Done About It.

This is what Volunteer Ministers do – help people every day, day in and day outFind Article, on a one-on-one basis – and it can be seen by the results they obtained more recently in Louisiana and Mississippi.
