With a few simple tips, you will be ready to shop for athletic shoes and will soon be stepping out with confidence.

Affordability.  Just because you are looking for a new Kimono, there’s no reason to empty the bank account in doing so.  Quality Jiu Jitsu uniforms can be comfortable and affordable at the same time.  By shopping around and comparing prices, you will find the perfect uniform at the perfect price.

Durability.  A good GI must be durable and able to withstand various training conditions, including being gripped and pulled about with a lot of force.  The worst thing i having a GI that is not strong enough for your training as GIs can easily be ripped during intense training sessions, which is why durability is part of a quality BJJ GI.

Design.  Everyone wants a GI that looks good, which is why design is very important.  In selecting a colour scheme or brand that suits your taste and lifestyle, you will not only feel good in your new GI, but you will look good too.

Versatility.  One of the most important factors of Kimono selection is versatility.  Will the GI last through regular hard training and will it also be light enough for hot summer days and competition fighting?  These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself before buying your uniform.

Support.  Every good GI has support.  It should fit snugly across your shoulders and tight around your waist once the belt has been tied.  Support can be very important, especially if you train on a regular basis.  Because Jiu Jitsu is a physical sport and there is a lot of being grabbed and pulled about neck and back ache can be a common occurrence hence the need for the correct support.

Know what you are buying.  Always purchase from a reputable, authorized BJJ GI store or from your club.  There are cheap and nasty products out there, including GIs made from the wrong materials that rip after a few uses. Buying from an authorized retailer will eliminate the chances of buying a bad Kimono. 

Try before you buy.  If you are purchasing locally, go in and sample several different GIs.  Try them on, take put the GI jacket on and tie with a belt and move your body and arms about to see if you have freedom of motion. In making sure that you have ease of movement and a proper fit, you will be much happier with your purchase.

Make sure the BJJ GI fits with your training and style of fighting.  Avoid purchasing anything that doesn’t really fit your taste or training needs.  Purchase something that ticks all the above boxes and you can’t go wrong.
