Choosing Your Riding Gears for Summer and Winter

Riding in summer and winter requires proper clothes and riding gears. You need to base your clothes according to the weather in order to get the best protection you can get.

Summer and winter are challenging seasons for motorcycle riders especially the in experienced one. However, you can’t avoid riding during this time of the year. In fact, a true rider faces this challenge with excitement and thrill. Riding on summer and winter have its fair share of hazards but you can avoid getting into incidents through good preparation and appropriate riding gears.

To keep you safe during the summer and winter, you need to wear the right gear. The market is brimming with all kinds of motorcycle gear and apparel. However, there are some that are not appropriate to beat the heat of summer or the cold wind of winter. Because of this you need to choose your protective clothing wisely and not make a fashion statement.

Protective Boots – It is very important to wear a decent pair of riding boots. It should be thick leather, weather resistant and can withstand constant use and hard riding.

Motorcycle Pants- Most of the injuries acquired during motorcycle accidents occurs at the bottom half of your body. Wear motorcycle pants which are water resistant for winter, ventilated for summer, do not tear easily and can protect your body against impact of falling on hard surface in case of accidents.

Motorcycle Jackets- Should be made from thick leather, water resistant, can keep you dry and warm during the winter. This should be reinforced at the elbows and shoulders to prevent injuries during collision or accidents.

Riding Gloves- Most riders instinctively put their hands with palms down to break their fall during accidents therefore you need to wear gloves that will protect your hands. A decent pair of gloves can be made from reinforced leather or Kevlar.

Goggles/Eyewear – It is important to protect your eyes from the glare of the sun, rain, dust or small insects that can get into your eyes while riding. You need to keep your eyes on the road and small objects that gets into the eye can distract your concentration and may cause horrible consequences.

Helmet – One of the most important and perhaps the most in-demand protective gear is the helmet. To beat the heat during the summer season, wear a helmet that allows air circulation on your head. On winter, wear a helmet that will protect you from getting cold and wet.
