We often think of golfing as a purely adult game. Getting out on the course is means connecting with coworkers or friends over a couple of beers. If you could have played from an early age, you handicap would reflect your level of skill. You wouldn’t have to dig out of the rough or miss puts, but coast through most courses in under par style.

It may be too late for you to attend a summer camp devoted to learning golfing techniques, but it isn’t too late for your children. They can still change and mold their swing, grow comfortable with the putter and find their way around the green. Through camp teaching skill and love of the game, your child can become the player you always wanted to be.

More importantly, perhaps, you child will also learn those unspoken skills of the game. We all know that golfing teaches patience, confidence, leadership and communication skills. Not to mention creating a love of enjoying the outdoors and physical exercise. The game has much to offer your child.

Finding a camp that teaches these skills usually means looking to your nearest public course or private club. In fact, if you have a regular course where you and your buddies often play, you may have already seen the signs advertising a golf camp. If you are a member of the local country club, talk to the club pro and find out if there are any camps going on at the club. They may also have information regarding other camps in the community.

These camps will usually run in sessions of one, two or sometimes three weeks in length. Some camps may be shorter or longer depending on your child’s already existing skills. Age can play a factor in the length of camp you can enroll them in. Again, check with a club pro or the local parks and recreation department to find out what may be available for your child.

Enrolling your child in a golf camp can foster a better understanding of the game. They can gain important skills early on that will help them in their play as adults. Beyond the games, you will find that golfing teaches them important life skills as well.
