Super Bowl Information

The American Super Bowl which started on January 15, 1967 which was originally part of an agreement between the NFL and its younger rival, the AFL which stands for the American football league, to start with the Super Bowl was a game which the champions of both leagues would then play each other to be crowned AFL – NFL world champions.

Although the two leagues 3 years later merged which was in 1970 and then the Super Bowl became the NFL's championship match which was then played between the champions of both the league's two major conference which was the American Football conference which is also known as the AFC and the NFC which stands for the nation football conference. The NFL seasons always extend into the New Year, the Super Bowl always uses Roman numerals to identify the title for each game instead of a more common title such as the year it was held.

Super Bowl XLIII will be played at the massive 75,000 all seater multi-complex stadium in Tampa, Florida on February 1, 2009.

Last year it was an amazing last minute touch down which won the game for the New York Giants who beat New England 17-14 in Superbowl XL11 in Arizona.

The Giants victory ended the New England patriots' unbeaten run and stopped the super Bowl XLII runners up from becoming the first NFL team to actually go and amazing 19-0 for the season.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning found Plaxico Burress for the deciding score. In front of a record breaking US television audience the Giants beat the very much well-favored, untouchable New England Patriots, the historic commentary in the last minute was; “Manning takes the snap, back to throw, under pressure, avoids the rush and he's gonna...fight out of it, still fights out of it and then he throws it deep down field wide open Tyree who...MAKES THE CATCH! AT THE 23 YARD LINE! What a play by Manning!”

Eli Manning terrorized three Patriots defensive players which was followed by Tyree making a a huge jump to catch the ball and pressing the ball against his helmet. Eli Manning actually broke away from several defensive players to make the 32-yard pass to Tyree who wont the game for the Giants.

It was actually New York's third Super Bowl success after wins in both 1987 and 1991.

The Miracle Catch and in fact throw was on the Cover of Sports Illustrated with the heading “What a catchFeature Articles, what an upset”.
