"Get a life!" How often have you heard that phrase? It is usually said to folk who have perhaps only one interest or hobby and they talk about little else. But how do they maintain such a level of interest in their chosen pastime? For most of us,Tips to Help You Become a Lifelong Golfer Articles a hobby lasts a few years then we move on to something else when discouragement sets in. This applies equally to golf, but it need not. Here are some golf tips that could help you maintain your interest in golf when you are feeling discouraged. Tip no. 1 Avoid too many competing sports and other activities. There is still a lot of truth in the old adage, "Jack-of-all-trades, but master of none." You can get a lot of satisfaction out of winning at one sport, but if you try to do too many different things, you cannot be exceptional or succeed in all of them. Tip no. 2 Avoid false discouragement. Keep records of your practice and play, so that you know precisely what your present level of skill is. Most golfers who become discouraged do so unnecessarily. A golfer who keeps records has an objective record of how their golf is improving. At least it will show you that your golf skills have not deteriorated, even if you have not moved forward particularly. Tip no. 3 Practice makes perfect. Think about the perfection of a concert pianist. Do they just turn up at the concert hall and play? No, of course not! They put in 8, 10, 12 hours of practice per day. The same applies to golf. Visit the practice range as often as you can. Practice your swing in the backyard. Get a golf training DVD - something that you can use anytime for a few minutes tuition and practice. OK, these are pretty much common sense but it always helps to reinforce this knowledge. Enjoy your golf!
