There are also two categories for BMX competitions, Racing and Freestyle. Racing events, especially those at the international elite category are series events where each leg is held in some part of the world leading to a world cup.
Among the racing events, the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup is the most prestigious. It attracts the top racers every year. It is an event wherein points can be garnered that would lead to qualifying for participation in the 2012 Olympics.
The Dew Tour Extreme Sports event is another. It is a five stop tour. The BMX event is the Nike BMX Open. This event includes freestyle and motocross competitions. It debuted in 2005 when it was hailed as “the first action sport”.
FISE or the International Extreme Sport Festival includes several extreme games. They are BMX, Inline Skating, Skateboard, Slopestyle MTB and Wakeboard. It attracts about between one to two thousand athletes and is considered the biggest in Europe in this type of competition.
REBEL Jam BMX is a race held not only for the sake of competition but also acts as a get-together of the whole BMX committee. It has BMX dirt and park categories. The race moves from place to place as a series of races.
The event of BMX motocross racing is now an Olympic event. It debuted during the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and will also continue as part of the 2012 Olympics. Athletes need to have participated in other internationally recognized BMX motocross events in order to qualify. A point system is used in order to accomplish this tabulation.
