Planning to go for surfing- a balance, experience, and practice demanding sport? Surfing is a complete sport in itself and is the most enjoyable but it also demands a lot of physical input in the form of warm-ups, workouts, core training and endurance

Step 1:

Prepare yourself for this enduring sport by going through:

  • Surfing warm-up: This will help to increase mobility and flexibility in the body and reduce muscle stiffness. You can take up various movements like butt drops, warrior lunge, pushups, breathing squats and many more.
  • Surf training workouts: This will help you give the strength, speed, and endurance required during the surf. Practice full body movement and balance drill exercises which will prepare your body for multi-dimensional space.
  • Surf core training: Integrated core training is a must and you should train yourself for the same.
  • Shoulders and upper back: Working on it will help you get stronger and pain-free upper body

 

Step 2:

Choose the right life jacket for your body:

  • Understand the types of jackets available
  • Check for the EC safety standards of the jacket
  • Choose the one fit for your weight and body type
  • Check for foam or inflatable life jackets
  • Some ’must have’ safety equipment should be there on the jacket like a whistle. Also look for additional features available.

 

Step 3:

Put on the vest as directed and make sure it clings to your body and is tight enough and safe for you. Now you are ready to head towards the water and enjoy your surf ride.

 

Step 4:

Lie flat on your stomach on the surfboard and make your way through the water. As soon as you see waves approaching, put down the front of the board with a lot of force in water and make your way under the crest of the wave. This will help you to penetrate through the wave and not get pushed back to the shore and the life vest you are wearing will help you to float above the water.

 

Step 5:

When you are ready to surf just face the beach and wait for the wave behind you and start to paddle as the water rise behind you and prepare yourself to stand up on the surfboard.

 

Step 6:

Try to push off the board using your arms and get your feet up on the board and try to balance.

 

Step 7:

Now you are the guide of your surfboard. Guide it and take it through the water using the front foot and based on your balancing ability and the effort that the ocean puts in to push you towards the shore, use your weight, foot, toes, and heels to enjoy the surf the way you always wanted to.
