This is an amazing story about how I discovered that the last male bastion of sports has been invaded by the fairer sex. And I'm not just talking about ladies playing football, but ladies playing football in their underwear!

Have you ever heard of Lingerie Football? I certainly had not – not until picked up the newspaper a few days ago and nearly freaked out when I read this story. Being a full blooded male and a staunch supporter of male dominated sports I was truly aghast at what I was reading. Here was a report about women playing tackle gridiron football,What Is The Lingerie Football League? Articles and if that was not bad enough already, they were playing it in what looked like their underwear?

So how could a bunch of ladies in their undergarments possibly play a game meant for men only and how would they even be able to make it entertaining enough? Well, I certainly had to swallow my words after reading the whole story. These ladies don’t mess around, in fact they really mean business. Not only do they pound each other hard, they do it relentlessly and they even make it look highly entertaining.

In fact this sport has taken off in a big way and is called the Fantasy Football League or you could even call it Lingerie Football if you preferred. And why is it popular? Because it’s a little different, and it’s fun and it brings a whole new set of fans to the game of gridiron football. What’s more, lingerie football fever has now started gripping Las Vegas as well and the high rollers in the sports betting world are placing wagers on the games every weekend. A new kind of betting slip I hear you say tongue in cheek?

So are these the lengths marketers are going to in the world of sport to create a hype about something new and make a whole lot of moola in the process? It certainly seems so, and on the face of it it’s a very clever idea. This is a tough guy sport meeting up somewhere in the middle with beautiful girls that like to show off their athletic bodies while sprinting around a sports stadium. And people are entertained by it and like to watch it, which immediately brings the TV networks to the table waving their cheque books and the rest is history I suppose.

It seems there are no more sports out there that are sacred to the male gender any longer. First it was female ice hockey, then female boxing and now the exclusive male domain of gridiron football has also been invaded. Well, as long as it’s good clean fun I guess it’s OK and if you can’t beat them join them. So what’s next on the list? Female bull fighters?
