Everyone is interested in using their personal smart phones and tablets to finish off their office tasks and this is decreasing the importance of company issued laptops and desktops. This is BYOD concept that we are talking about that has hundreds of advantages. However, it has its share of disadvantages as well, which need to be addressed before we could use this concept in the benefit. Enterprise mobile apps are the answer to every question faced by this concept in terms of usability at business level.

Mobile device management and data protection – Security is the topmost priority, when BYOD is used by the enterprises. This is because of the invasion of external mobile devices in the company's network, which if not tackled strategically, can generate several problems. In addition, if Mobile Device Management (MDM) is not applied properly, it will leave us with the only option of controlling the apps used by employees. The Mobile Application Management strategy helps businesses in controlling corporate apps successfully and allows employees to use their mobile phones for personal purposes without any restrictions or boundaries.

Device and data loss – Losing a device is another very stressful concern that business owners have to deal with while adopting BYOD culture. If an employee loses his insecure device, it will put all the confidential and sensitive data at risk. For this, users can have apps that allow them to trace their phone as soon as possible. One such app in Apple iPhone is "Find my iPhone". Moreover, there are chances of losing the data also. To tackle this situation, it would be wise if companies keep a backup of all the data or keep strategies ready to retrieve the lost data as soon as possible.

Over or under working – One major benefit of BYOD is that it makes employees utilize every second or their free time in working from wherever they are. However, this could be problematic; if an employee starts thinking that, he is putting more efforts and time than what he should be. The condition further worsens, if he starts claiming that he is utilizing most of his time at home for office works only.

Similarly, when there is no authority to keep a check over the employees while they are working from home, there are chances that they dedicate lesser time to office works than what they are supposed to contribute. Mobile apps could be helpful in this, as they can record the number of hours spent by an employee while working. They can also keep track of what they have been working on and let business owners stay aware of the time spent by the employees in working.

Lack of proper structure – Working at home means diverting mind every now and then, making it tougher to keep track of projects and tasks because of lack of proper structure. Mobile apps help business owners in this aspect too, as there are apps related to calendars etc. Then, there are apps that allow business owners to plan their projects and schedule it amongst users.

Lack of monitoring – Every company wants to have as much control as possible on BYOD devices used by remote employees. This is very important as data received from home based devices could be infectious and weaken the security of the server making it painless for hackers to get access to sensitive or confidential information.

CONCLUSION

Companies should have to look into this matter very seriously and deploy enterprise mobile apps very strategically. This will ensure that weaker points of the BYOD culture are covered and it is working only in the benefit of the business.
