French Riviera

Nice is situated on the Cote d’Azur on the incredibly beautiful Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels). The sunny, temperate climate has been renowned for centuries and in the 19th century, many British aristocrats used to holiday here – giving rise to the famous Promenade des Anglais. The promenade was started in the early 19th century and today it is the hub of life in Nice, stretching for nearly 7km. The promenade is a wonderful place for the family to start the day. There are countless cafes to sit and watch the world go by overlooking the ocean, and for those younger members of the family with a little more energy, cycling, jogging or roller skating are de rigeur.

Culture exchange

Nice tempers her beach attractions with culture, boasting an incredible amount of museums and galleries, along with sophisticated and ultra-fashionable boutiques and nightclubs – ensuring there's something to pique the interest of every member of your group. Accommodation in one of the excellently appointed hostels will enable you to mix with like-minded guests from all over the world, further enhancing the city's cosmopolitan appeal. Travelling is one of the best educators for children, and using hostels is a great way to help them understand diverse global cultures. There is so much more to this type of holiday than just tourist-hopping from site to site – it is the kind of experience that has the potential to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Fantastic rail journeys

Until 1860, Nice was actually a part of Italy, and San Remo is just an hour and a half away by train. This wonderful journey sees you travelling along the Riviera, passing through Monaco along the way. The whole family will enjoy the breath taking Mediterranean scenery as the train chugs along, hugging the dramatic coastline.

Once in San Remo you can experience the authentic Italian way of life as you explore the beautiful town. There are many interesting places to visit, but perhaps the most unusual is the Russian Orthodox Church, with its characteristic onion-shaped domes. This wonderful church was built in the early 20th century, following the popularity of the destination with an influx of Russian tourists.

Nice has so much to offer for a versatile family holiday, and with an extremely reliable rail network to neighbouring regions and excellent group accommodation in any of the hostels, it's becoming more and more popular.

Experience the world of group accommodation in international hostels with your family and you'll never look at a hotel in the same way again.
