Aalborg: The City of Vikings

One of the busiest commercial centers of the Denmark, the Aalborg city possesses every element that makes it a worth-visiting place. Actually founded by the Vikings near the Lim fjord, this city has a population of more than 160,000 inhabitants. Herring fishery is something that holds most of the responsibility of city’s growth. After the advent of railway in this region, this port developed into a full fledged city with more industries coming in.

Aalborg, Denmark features some historical building of tourist’s interest. The Jens Bang’s house is considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in Northern Europe. Besides this, Aalborg Monastery also is an impressive architecture. Budolfi Cathedral is another monument that interests the tourists. Numerous shopping streets are another hallmark of the city. Most of them flank the two largest pedestrian areas of Aalborg. Central Aalborg incorporates many specialty shops like that of jewelry, shoes, watch and books.

Summer is the best time to visit Aalborg because this season gifts a charming atmosphere to the city. A number of restaurants and cafes take care of every need of tourists’ palates. It features more than 300 restaurants and cafes. This feature makes it recognized as “Little Paris of the North.” You have abundance of recreational facilities out here.  Bars, discotheques and many beautiful parks entertain the visitors a lot.

Attractions for both children and adults pervade the city.  Aalborg zoo and Tivolivoid amusement park are some of the interesting destinations for children. The Lindoholm Hoje Museum presents the interesting history of Vikings.
