Arolla – Switzerland

If you are finding for a new skiing destination this year, Arolla might be your cup of tea for a wholesome ski adventure with your whole family. Try skiing this resort on a good powder day and experience the thrill of the Swiss Alps.

Arolla is stationed in the upper portion of the Herens Valley in Valais and offers an uncrowded and well-maintained skiing area. It also has 13 individual pistes with 5 ski lifts accommodating 3, 550 skiers or snowboarders per hour. The highest lift can take you up to 3000 metres high in the air. The Arolla area contains 3 black runs, 6 red runs, and 3 blue runs. Pistes rising up to 2500 kilometres ensures ample snow the whole season. The resort can augment natural snow with 3 snow cannons for 2 kilometres. Parking areas and roads are readily available the whole year since the resort is open for hiking during summer days and skiing and winter sports during winter time.

Arolla is found in Switzerland, and there are important airports as well as minor ones, serving flights going to the area. You have the freedom to choose your destinations from the following choices:

from Geneva to Arolla
from Berne to Arolla
from Pian Rosa to Arolla
from Aosta to Arolla
from Bex to Arolla

The nearest major airport is Sion, which is just an hour's drive going to the resort, given a clear driving route and a good weather. From any of the airport you can take buses, minibus, car hires, shuttles, or train to take you to Arolla. From Geneva, you may take the railway going to Sion. When you stop over Sion, you can ride a post bus going to the resort. You can also hire a car but make sure you go as a group if you want to save money.

During summer, you can enjoy sports like climbing, dance-climbing, para-gliding, mountain biking and fishing. Guided tours and mountain trips are popular activities in Arolla during this time of the year.  One spectacular event to watch out in the area is the blooming of the wild flowers from June to July.  On the other hand, wintertime opens the opportunity to cross-country ski, snowboard, para-glide, and also do a little ski tour.
