Bad Hofgastein is located at a height of 2818 feet in the district of St Johann im Pongau in the Salzburger Land in Austria. The place and its neighbouring municipalities are amongst the most famous skiing regions in the Salzburger Land. In winter Bad Hofgastein offers beginners, advanced skiers and snowboarders everything a winter sportsmen’s heart desires. With its fair prices and great offers even a family holiday is affordable. In summer the region is favoured by patients in health spas and hikers.

 

A highlight of Bad Hofgastein is the Snow Jazz Gastein Festival which was founded in 2002. The high alpine festival, at which concerts take place  at a height of over 7217 feet a.s.l., is an inherent part of the regional as well as of the national cultural calendar. To connect winter sports, especially skiing, with contemporary-cultural events has been and still is the appendage for this festival. At this festival rhythms aside of mainstream music expect the winter sportsmen at the lodges during the day and at night international jazz stars show their skills at concert halls, clubs and hotel bars.

 

The geographic location of 47.10 degrees north and 13.6 degrees east cater for snow reliability from the beginning of December until the middle of April at Bad Hofgastein. Furthermore, Bad Hofgastein is located about 87 km away from the regional capital Salzburg which is the birth place of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

 

The site has about 6.700 inhabitants and numerous hotels in Bad Hofgastein serve up to 145.000 visitors a year with an accommodation. Moreover, the choice of affectionately arranged boarding houses and holiday homes add to the great number of visitors.

Bad Hofgastein is a very popular vacation site. However, all bigger places of the Gastein valley are not too far away. Thus, at least in the off-season, it should not be a problem to find accommodation in Bad Hofgastein or somewhere around.

 

The ski resort of Bad Hofgastein offers over 81 km of marked trails. 28 km are marked as easiest (blue), 51 km are marked as intermediate (red) and 2 km are marked as most difficult (black). 20 lifts cater for a fast progressing. 7 of them are handle tows, 8 are chair lifts and 5 are gondolas. Bad Hofgastein is a family friendly ski resort. However, also more experienced skiers will enjoy it.
