With the highest concentration of golf courses in the world, Bermuda is the perfect place for a sporting holiday – just don’t forget your golf travel insurance!

There’s nothing quite like watching your ball soar into a pale blue sky against a backdrop of palm trees,Bermuda: An Azure-Ocean Paradise for Golf Lovers Articles beaches and sparkling ocean before dropping down onto a verdant green. After all the rainy weekend afternoons spent on the courses of the UK, playing golf in Bermuda is like stepping into another world.

For such a small island, Bermuda has a good number of excellent courses, some of which are attached to prestigious five-star hotels and others are independent, although usually not far from the leading golf hotels.

Here’s my recommendation for the very best golfing hotels on the islands; hotels which not only have their own courses, but which are also only a stone’s throw from some of the finest independent greens and fairways.

(A word of warning before we begin: this article could cause you to arrange your golf travel insurance and book a flight to Bermuda before the end of the day).

The Fairmont Southampton

The keen golfer will find everything they’re looking for at the Fairmont Southampton with its stunning, challenging 18-hole course.

The legendary par-3 Turtle Hill course – voted top five par-3 course in the world by Golf Magazine – is famous for its tricky changes in elevation, sand traps and water hazards (and that’s before you factor in the warm sea breezes blowing off the Atlantic). Turtle Hill presents a great challenge for the serious player.

Beyond the hotel grounds, just a ten-minute taxi ride away, is the popular Port Royal 18-hole championship course. Pit your nerve against the sixteenth hole where you will tee off from the top of a cliff in order to reach a green which lies on a rocky outcrop below.

Rosewood Tuckers Point

Even without the golf this is one of my favourite hotels on the island – with its expansive private beach and elegant five-star charm – but once you factor in the 18-hole, par-70, championship golf course, this really is any player’s dream come true.

The Tuckers Point course sweeps across 200 acres of beautiful Bermudian countryside with breath-taking views of the ocean as well as inland holes, nestled in pinewood forests.

Practice your swing at the hotel’s driving range and putting green or, if you really want to improve your game, try out the club’s excellent club fitting programme where the professionals will analyse your game and recommend clubs specific to your needs.

If you want to try out your new, improved game on a new course, hotel guests enjoy playing privileges at the nearby Mid Ocean Club on certain days of the week. Well worth the short journey, the exclusive club has played host to some of the world’s leading golfers (not to mention leading celebs!).

Don’t Forget Your Golf Travel Insurance

Planning a golf holiday is always a joy, but don’t forget about the details. Most standard travel insurance will not cover you if you loose or damage your clubs, or sustain a sports-related injury, so make sure that you take out specialist golf travel insurance when you book your holiday.

At InsureMore, our golf travel insurance includes free cover for business trips and, with our deluxe policies, if your clubs are delayed in transit we’ll pay towards hiring new ones so you can get on with enjoying the beautiful greens and fairways Bermuda has to offer.
