Best Family Ski Resorts Accessible from Geneva Airport

Three excellent family friendly resorts, which are easily accessible by fast Geneva airport transfers so there's no time for the kids to get restless.

If you're looking to get away for a fast and fun winter ski break with the family, it's very important to choose the right resort. As well looking for aspects like plenty of quiet beginner slopes (and enough challenging ones to keep you happy, too) and a range of other activities to keep youngsters entertained, you need to find somewhere that's within easy access of an airport, so you don’t spend half your holiday time in transit.

Geneva is around an hour and a half from the UK by air, which fits quite nicely into a child's attention span! It services a host of resorts in one of Europe's most extensive ski areas, and many of them can be reached by fast Geneva airport transfers in as little as an hour.

Here are three fantastic resorts that fit the family-friendly brief to a tee.

Morillon

Situated within the Flaine area, in the heart of the Gran Massif, Morillon has the endorsement of the French government, with the 'Famille Plus Montagne' certification, for its superb children's facilities. With a picturesque setting and a delightful traditional Savoyard ambience, convenient ski-in, ski-out accommodation is just the beginning. Dog-sledding, ice-skating and skiing by torch-light are just some of the many other activities kids can take part in, and the dedicated "Village des Enfants" is a safe, fun, supervised environment for children aged from 6 months up to 10 years.

Les Houches

Another recipient of the coveted 'Famille Plus Montagne', Les Houches' laidback Alpine atmosphere is perfect for a young family. There's a dedicated beginner's ski area with a special 'easy-to-use' lift, and even a special beginners' lift pass and the 'Tribu' family pass, which are designed to make teaching kids to ski far more affordable. The resort’s nursery takes children from 3 months to 3 years, and there's also an excellent ski school with children's club that provides a combination of learning to ski and childcare. You really couldn't ask for more in terms of family friendliness, and the bonus is that there are even a couple of black runs if you're looking for a challenge yourself.

Avoriaz

Ski region: Portes du Soleil
Transfer time: An hour and 40 minutes

Avoriaz is part of the massive Portes du Soleil ski region, so it's perfect for families with kids of any age, with over 650km of linked pistes at your disposal. One of the best things about Avoriaz is that it's entirely vehicle free (unless you count the horse-drawn sleighs, which the kids will love!), making for a safe, relaxed environment. There are some excellent nursery slopes close to the resort as well as the fabulous Village des Enfants, which is complete with Disney characters and special 'kids only' slopes, and is dedicated to all things fun in the snow! With ski-in, ski-out accommodation and plenty of lifts, it's been said that you never have to walk uphill in Avoriaz – which is good news for little legs or lazy teens!

While it doesn't take much to keep the kids happy on a winter ski break, as long as they've got plenty of snow, the location of the resort you choose can make or break the holiday. These three resorts not only cater specifically to young needs, they're all highly accessible on relatively short Geneva airport transfers.
