Cheaper Days to Fly Over the Holidays

Travelers with flexible schedules are often on the prowl to determine which days are best for finding cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages over the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holidays. 

Although there are exceptions to any list, the following is, in general, a good guide as to when to try to travel and what days to try to avoid in December:

·      Cheap dates to travel:  December 12, 13, 14, 17, 20, 24, 27, 28, and 31.

·      Reasonable dates to travel:  December 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 25, 30, January 1 and 2.

·      Most expensive travel dates:  December 22, 23, 26 and 29.

Airline ticket prices tend to be the most expensive the Thursday and Friday before and the Monday after the Christmas week as well as the Thursday before New Year’s weekend. 

The following is a guide as to when to try to travel and what days to try to avoid around Thanksgiving:

·      Cheap dates to travel:  November 19, 22, 24, 29, 30, December 1 and 3.

·      Reasonable days to travel:  November 24 (Thanksgiving Day)

·      Most expensive travel dates:  November 18, 20, 23, 25, 26, 27 and 28.

While the above presents a fair picture of preferred travel days, prices will vary depending on the actual dates you choose to travel and the route you will be taking.  Smart money says when you find a reasonable airfare to snap it up since airline ticket prices are expected to rise as the holidays approach.
