Coach Buses Are More Than Just Transportation

Coach buses offer more than simply getting from point A to point B. While many obviously come flush with amenities, most even bring some interesting history to the table.

Coach buses have tires, motors, and brakes, but they're not just another form of transportation. These vehicles come in many sizes and with a slew of amenities. While they can get riders from point A to point B, they can also be the destination themselves. Coach buses are venues, homes away from home, and an adventure just waiting to happen.

Historical Coaches

Over time, there have been arrays of coaches that have moved humans and cargo around. There were chariots that were pulled around by horses back in the Roman Empire; there were stages coaches delivering mail and people around the Wild West; and there was Cinderella who even got her fairy godmother to transform a pumpkin into her ride to the ball.

Greyhounds

Greyhound is a classic bus line that makes stops in cities and towns all over the United States. This line is named after the dog breed known for speed and racing. Greyhound vehicles used to be an economical way to get around on long trips but today, plane fares are often less expensive.

School Buses

The classic yellow stretch vehicle picking up kids at bus stops around the country every morning with their books and lunchboxes is a classic sight that's been making the rounds for years. Many of these vehicles are fairly rudimentary and lack the luxurious amenities found in charter models.

Early Parties on Wheels

Partying on the road has been a way of celebrating for decades. In the sixties, psychedelic guru Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters took off in their party bus that they named "Further." This group partied and drove around the U.S. while living in Further. Other bands and musicians have traveled from concert to concert around the land in similar fashion. While these large vehicles are great ways to transport instruments and equipment, they have also hosted a lot of good times.

Modern Day Uses

Today, limo buses may be used as venues for bachelor parties, birthday galas, and lots of other celebratory shindigs. Having a driver allows everyone to imbibe without risking a DUI citation.

Charter

Organizations charter these lengthy vehicles to transport groups to workshops, athletic events, tours, weddings, and gambling trips to the casinos. Schools charter special rigs to take kids on field trips as well when the yellow classics are being used for other purposes or are not appropriate for the function.

Amenities

There are some lush and luxurious amenities on these stretched-out rides. Bathrooms, sound systems, food service, wet bars, and more are contained within these vehicles. Many of them can seat as many as 55 passengers.

The Driver

In order to drive one of these lengthy automobiles, a driver must have a special commercial drivers' license. It takes a great deal of skill and finesse to turn, back upScience Articles, and just keep those autos on the road. Companies that employ these drivers make sure they have excellent driving records to keep passengers safe and liability low.

Coach buses are a special brand of vehicle and are a cut above the rest. They are more than just a mode of transportation.
