Come to Tuscany and Produce Your Personal Olive Oil
In Tuscany the olive tree is intrinsic to the landscape as much as grapes and contribute to the magical colours of this land, with its green and purple shades. Here every October is the "olive season" which means it's time to get ready to prepare the best olive oil in the world. Picking olives with your hands and taking them to the "Frantoio", the olive press, to produce an oil that you can call your own is something that cannot be compared with.
The importance of olive oil in Italy's history is deeply rooted. Dating back to the Etruscans, who lived in western Italy before the Romans, olive oil was used mainly for its medicinal properties.
In time the oil became a staple of the Mediterranean diet and today is used almost everywhere as condiment or as a delicacy.

Today we can buy olive oil almost everywhere but nothing can beat the experience of making your own oil with organic and classic procedures. Unfortunately mass-produced oil rarely can compete with the local one. Healthiest and organic, this is the way to really taste olive oil.
Picking olives with your hands and taking them to the “Frantoio”, the olive press, to produce an oil that you can call your own is something that cannot be compared with. It may seem strange to travel to Italy to pick olives but this is an experience among many others that can be done while in Tuscany. Wine tasting, wonderful cities and works of art and breathtaking landscapes are only a little part of what Tuscany can give to your holidays.
The first thing you have to do is to find a beautiful location that allows you to engage in this amazing activity, there are a lot of these in Italy and especially in Tuscany. Villas and hotels that offer this opportunity are in impressive spots, like on top of hills, where you can see the true beauty of Tuscany.
Then you have to prepare yourself because it won't be easy. In this day and age, we're not accustomed to do physical job any more but olive making is a very physical and spiritual activity.
Patience and humility are necessary for this endeavour. Find the olive, pick it and repeat. It may sound silly but, at the end of the day, it's very fulfilling.
The next step is the real making of the oil and this best left to the experts and their centenary knowledge, then the only thing left to do is try your oil.
Producing oil is a matter of heart but you can live and taste the world of olive oil by visiting one of the many events that celebrate this product. In Tuscany almost every town has its own “Sagra”, festival, where you can taste all the delicacies that are made in this prodigious land. Thanks to the international appreciation of olive oil in recent times there are some great festivals dedicated only to oil where you can taste the best batches together with local products. So, after a day of “hard” work you can have a “bruschetta” and a glass of wine and really enjoy life.
