Does Anxiety About Flying Stop You From Getting On A Plane

Fear of flying can be paralyzing and make one unable to travel and see loved ones. What are some helpful ways to get beyond this phobia?

Fear of flying is a condition which can cause severe effects both emotionally and physically. It can be very debilitating to worry about visiting someone across the country and not know if you can do it. Some symptoms are similar to anxiety disorders and include breathing problems, nausea, excessive sweating and headaches. It can also reach the level of panic attacks for some.

Some people will take a prescription medication before flying to be able to stay calm. This is something to speak with your doctor about to see if he thinks it will be beneficial. Practicing meditation and physical relaxation helps break the patterns in the body. Our bodies tighten up and this can result in headaches as well as limit breathing. By reversing this, the body learns how to open up and release the tension.

If you are unable to overcome this phobia and it is escalating, then you need to go through a procedure called systematic desensitization. This is very beneficial for people who are facing the problems of phobias and one makes progress by being in situations that cause anxiety and learning how to relax in the midst of it.

The most convenient way to travel is flying in an airplane. So, if you wish to experience the benefits, then facing the fear and resolving to be comfortable with this form of travel is an important step. Another benefit is that when you overcome one type of fear you can also gain confidence to get past other blockages in your life. This means that you deal with other obstacles that limit your life and can transcend them more easily.
