Exhibition Hall of Weapons - an intimidating sight
Exhibition Hall of Weapons which is situated in Beijing houses a comprehensive collection of weapons that were used by the Chinese in times of war. What was earlier known as Peking has since
changed to the municipality of Beijing after the Peoples
Republic of China was formed. Home to a
remarkably large population, the city of Beijing
is certainly not what you might call a normal city in Asia.
This vibrant city brings together the traditional wisdom of the east and the
modern audacity of the west to create a uniqueness that is can rarely be found
elsewhere. The Exhibition Hall of Weapons in Beijing houses more than
10,000 pieces of weaponry which is mainly of local origin however there are a
few exhibits that have been manufactured in foreign countries. A two storied
building houses these weapons that were once used to destroy lives during times
of war. The first floor houses a collection of antiaircraft guns, mortars,
antibody armor weapons, surveillance equipment some of which are still used
today. The second floor showcases a collection of
guns which are of various calibers, rifles and swords. The one piece that
stands out of this collection is the Jingall which is a Chinese version of the
common shotgun that is considerably bigger than the American equivalent of its
time. Further more this giant of a gun required the services of two soldiers in
order for it to be fired successfully. Other collections of weaponry such as
assault rifles made in Japan
and semi- automatic machine guns manufactured in Britain,
America
also have their own a place within these walls. 5,000 more light weight machine
guns, small hand guns and muskets completes this massive collection of weapons
which is a must see for any traveller to the region. Just 35 kilometers away from the capital’s
airport lies Shangri-La Hotel Beijing Article Tags: Exhibition Hall Source: Free Articles from ArticlesFactory.com
