Fun Events For a Summer of Alpine Excitement in the Three Valleys

When you think of France’s Three Valleys, you probably imagine snow-covered mountains, skiing, snowboarding and lively après ski. But visit the beautiful Alpine region in the warmer months, and you’ll discover a whole world of exciting activities with not a snowflake in sight.

For those choosing to enjoy the warmth of June, July and August in a summer holiday chalet in the Alps, there is so much to do your only challenge will be choosing between live music events, extreme summer sports and exploring nature.

Here are just some of our favourite highlights from a summer in the Three Valleys.

Summer Solstice Music Festival

If you are renting your own summer holiday chalet in the Three Valleys around the solstice, check out the annual Fête de la Musique, a nationwide music festival in France in which the whole country participates,. The Three Valleys is no exception. The lively music festival spreads across all the resorts in the region with live musicians playing outdoors or in small venues in all the resort centres.

Tour de France

Experience thrills and excitement as this world-renowned bicycle race passes through the French Alps in July. It is an exhilarating spectacle with locals and tourists alike turning out to line the roads and cheer the cyclists as they pass.

All That Jazz

Jazz fans enjoying a stay in a summer holiday chalet during early July will love the free jazz festival at Brides Les Bains. Musicians from around the world gather here for a three-day festival of modern and traditional jazz. This year the headline act was none other than Gypsy Kings frontman, Patchai Reyes and his new band, Gypsy Nouveau.

Extreme Mountain Biking

If you like your cycling off-road and extreme, then the Three Valley’s Addict Tour: Mountain Biking Weekend in July could be exactly what you’ve been looking for. This two-day event covers some of the French Alps’ most challenging mountain biking terrain, with mountain trails and seriously intense forest tracks. Don’t forget your shock-absorbers!

Bastille Day

Celebrated all over France, the Three Valleys is not to be left behind when it comes to observing this national holiday on July 14. Expect street parties, pétanque competitions and an evening of festivities rounded off by stunning fireworks displays at most of the area’s resorts.

Extreme Obstacle Race

The Frappadingue Alp X’trem obstacle race, held in early August, may sound a bit bizarre but this is no kid’s fun-day. The course is 12km long and the 5,000 brave contestants must struggle over and across 40 extremely challenging obstacles to complete it. If you’re not brave enough to take part, then I would definitely recommend going along for a look.
