Grand Canyon Helicopters Are a Great Way to Commemorate Veteran's Day

Grand Canyon helicopters will be flying as scheduled this Veteran's Day. Choose between aerial or landing tours. But do not wait long as we are expecting flights to sell out fast. Learn more. Read this article.

Veteran's Day is a long weekend, so it is a great chance to head to the Grand Canyon for a helicopter tour.

Grand Canyon helicopters follow the same schedule on holidays as they do every other day of the year. In most cases, that's means hourly at both the West Rim and the South Rim.

So, which rim is best? Here are some things to consider.

If you want to take a helicopter tour out of Las Vegas, NV, you will head to the West Rim since it is closest to the city. However, the South Rim is closer to travelers in Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Sedona, so if you will be starting from that region of Arizona, you will fly to the South Rim.

Let's dive into the kinds of tours available from each location.

If you depart from Las Vegas, you can choose from an air-only tour or one that lands at the canyon. No matter which one you choose, you get to see Lake Mead and the huge Hoover Dam from the air. As implied, air will go over all key sights while landing will take you to either the top or the bottom.

Things to do on landing tours.

The bottom flight comes with a picnic and gives you 30 minutes ground time alongside the Colorado River. Other fun adventures you can add include a walk on the Skywalk and a boat trip along the Colorado River. You can also tour the Skywalk when you choose a chopper that lands on top of the rim.

The unique thing about Vegas landing tours is that they are the only ones that let you go below the rim and land.

So if you choose a helicopter tour of the South Rim, it has to be air-only. This is because the National Park Service (NPS) doesn't permit flights to go below the rim. But don't worry, the air tours are a lot of fun.

There are two kinds of South Rim air tours: 30 minutes and 50 minutes. The shorter one goes from South to North and back, while the longer one does that too but it also comes with everything up to the Park's eastern border. Choose the long tour if you can because you will get to fly over about 75 percent of the Park that way.

Understand that Veteran's Day weekend can get quite busy. So, you should book your seats at least one week before you plan to go. That said, it is winter, which is nothing like the summer tourism season, so you can probably get away with 72 hours but I wouldn't cut it any closer.

Buy your seats online too because it saves you money that way. The best deals are found during the summer months, but you can still get fantastic discounts during the winter. You can probably save about 25 percent. That's nothing to sneeze at when you factor in the savings on a group of two or more people.

Let's Wrap It Up

The three day Veteran's Day weekend is one of the last chances for a quick getaway this year. Arizona and Las Vegas are great places to enjoy a nice trip. Thus, if you are looking for an incredible daytrip, I strongly recommend the Grand Canyon. And of all the Grand Canyon tours availableScience Articles, those on helicopter are the most exciting of all.
