The state’s monuments and ruins speak of an untold saga of a chequered history. Its festivals spark dazzling colors and gaiety. Touring MP is a celebration of life itself.  Like any state of India Madhya Pradesh had a historical past.

The rich architecture stands testimony to the glorious era of the Maharajahs who ruled over kingdoms big and small.   Etched on the walls of ancient monuments are passages of embattled history – of conquests and decline.  

 The evolution of fine art and rich culture of the state has delivered its master strokes which are evident all over.  The Khajuraho Temples may have a sensuous story to tell but also reflect the fine architectural heritage of Central India.  Hidden in deep confines of the state they invite thousands of visitors from all over the World to explore their magic and revel in delight.  Khajuraho Dance Festival is organized every year for the connoisseurs of performing arts in India. 

Orchha the stronghold of Bundela Rajputs is a veritable storehouse of ancient structures of excellence. The forts, palaces, temples and magnificent cenotaphs on the Betwa River extol the virtues of their creators. Jahangir Mahal is more than a fort; the citadel housed a garrison of Mogul invaders.

The Ram Raja Temple reflects the magnificence of the palatial surroundings rather than the simplicity of a place of worship.   The Grand Chaturbhuj Temples and Laxmi Temples are a testimony of strong belief and adherence to one’s faith. The temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is an example of a monument built on sound principles of ancient Hindu architecture. 

Monuments of Mandu narrate a tale of romance of the Kings and their consorts. The serene ambiance of this little town is heightened to the level of romantic destination during the monsoon in Central India. The characteristic feature of Mandu is its 37 kilometer embattlement wall with twelve massive gates. Other places of interest are the Hindolah Mahal,  Jahaz Mahal, Hoshang Shah’s Tomb, Rani Roopmati Pavalion and Baz Bahadur Palace.    

The story of Sanchi  is told by the Stupas the domed shaped architectural wonders. The Stupas house the relics of the Buddha and exhibit finest carvings on the elegant structures. The Great Stupa dates back to 3 BCE and is the oldest structure made of stone in India. A number of monasteries are situated here.    

Ujjain is one of the holiest destination in India. This is where one of the twelve Jotir Linga is situated in the Maha Kal Temple. There are many Hindu temples worth a visit in this pilgrimage city.
