Whether it’s for business,How to Stay in Shape in Lima without Going to the Gym Articles pleasure, vacation, or general adventure seeking, we all find ourselves traveling for one reason or another. When visiting Lima, you may find it difficult to continue with your normal workout regime, but fortunately there are plenty of options dispersed throughout the city of Lima that can help keep your health plan right on track.

Along the coast of Lima is an area known as Costa Verde that goes through the San Miguel district, Magdalena del Mar, San Isidro, Miraflores, Barranco and all the way to the Chorrillos district. El Malecon is the boardwalk that lines this Costa Verde area and is filled with many opportunities for cardio-lovers, such as running or jogging. Since it is directly bordering the ocean, the time flies by while running because of all the gorgeous ocean views. When going through Barranco heading towards Miraflores or vice versa, you can see a great view of one of Lima’s best restaurants, La Rosa Nautica that offers some of Lima’s finest seafood. After a hard run, you can reward yourself with a healthy dinner of nutritious seafood to replenish your energy.  Also directly off the boardwalk, you can join in on the action with the many surfers riding the waves off the Pacific coast and rent a surfboard.

Malecon Balta offers many opportunities for fitness fanatics to stay healthy as well. You can rent a bike at a stand located within Larcomar and take your own personal biking tour of Lima. Another option you could do to get your heart rate elevated is that you can go rollerblading. An advantage of rollerblading on Malecon Balta is that you can find yourself at one point in the midst of Parque del amor surrounded by stunning gardens and mosaic benches and looking at the famous lover’s statue. Also scattered throughout both these malecones are outdoor gyms where you can find various forms of workout equipment. Some of this equipment includes crunch benches, stationary bicycles, and pull-up bars. You can easily use these outdoor gyms to mix up your workout to incorporate an effective strength training workout into your routine.

Some things for healthy travelers to bring with them in their suitcase would include easy, portable equipment such as a jump rope, a resistance band, and a Polar heart rate monitor. These take up less room than a hair dryer and are the most time effective travel workout tools. You can easily transport these tools with you to the Malecon to take your workout up a notch. Don’t forget to pack your iPod loaded with the best tunes to keep you motivated, sneakers, and breathable clothes to workout in.
