Tourist destinations are often accompanied by several issues that are sometimes highlighted and sometime tackled tactfully. Malaysia received around 25 million tourists in 2012 which contributed almost 60 billion RM (Malaysia currency). Malaysia could manage stunning average occupancy rates of 62.4 in 2012. It is the 9th most visited place in the world.

Malaysia has eleven states out of which Kuala Lumpur,Issues currently driving change in the travel and tourism sector Articles Penang are the most popular.  Malaysia had lot of beaches and tropical islands to keep the tourists interested and wanting more and more to explore the country.

Most of the issues are faced due to the variation in the socio-cultural upbringing that is prevalent differently across the globe. Few of the major issues in the tourism industry are highlighted below:

Tourism industry in Malaysia is facing challenges in terms of security threats for the travelers with the advent of several criminal and terror activities.
Standardization of the Global products are also one of the major issues that the tourists are facing in Malaysia. The opportunity to explore new and unique items and service at the place of travel have become less prominent and ultimately have resulted in the decrease of the uniqueness of the destination.


Cost of Fuel and the travel is also becoming one of the most prominent issues for the travelers and causing a sense of deformity for the tourists to visit several attractive places from across the globe. The spending on the travel is highly dependent on the Fuel rates in Malaysia.


Communication technology has also formed a major challenge and an issue for the tourism industry in Malaysia. In modern world, with the advent of mobiles and internet, the tourists are bound to remain connected with their friends and relatives from across the globe.
Political conditions in several countries of the world also act as a hindrance for the tourists to travel to that country/place thereby creating an issue of concern for the tourism in that part of the world. Political hindrances may come in form of visa acceptance or clearance, regulations for the tourists, amenities provided, etc.


The changing lifestyle of the people from across the countries have also imposed a major challenge for the tourism industry. The movement of the joint families from being a joint family to a nuclear one is also posing a threat to the tourism industry.


The environmental factors like pollution, climate, etc. also pose a threat for the global economy in driving the issues that are faced by the modern day travelers in Malaysia.
The comfort level on various fronts be it easy of transportation, accommodation or food often are creating a major issue in the travel industry and therefore in order to counter the same the governments from across the globe are taking ardent steps in providing amenities that are of a global standard to attract tourists from across the globe.
