Kanha National Park

The Kanha National Park is located in central India in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is spread over 1940 Square Kms and is divided into two segments of Hallon and Banjar.

How to reach the Kanha National Park


The nearest airport is at Jabalpur some 175 Kms away. Cheap flights india connecting Delhi and Nagpur, land at Jabalpur. From here you can hire a tourist cab to take you to the park. The nearest big city is Mandla about 50 kms away and good roads connect Mandla with Kanha. You can also come to Kanha from Nagpur which is some 275 Kms away, and an overnight journey would be ideal with a halt at either Seoni or Nainpur.

   

How to travel within the Kanha National Park


You can travel within the park either by coach on the many package tours offered or if you want to go off the beaten track you can even hire a cab. Most of these cabs are the Tata Indica cars and some old sturdy ambassadors. You will need to take a guide with you to show you around and give you the background of each spot. The park is basically made up of flat grasslands called maidans and lush forests. The major attraction is the wildlife in addition to the topography.

The major attraction is the Royal Bengal Tiger, but in addition there are a plethora or wildlife species that include the sloth bear, the barasingha ( a species of swamp deer) , the wild dog leopards, the gray langur, the wild boar, the sambhar, the chital (spotted deer), the Indian wolf among many other species of fauna are to be found here.
