How to reach the Madhav National Park

The nearest airport is at Gwalior located 112 Kms away. Indian airlines flies to Gwalior. Its cheap flights india connecting Delhi with Jabalpur also land at Gwalior. From Gwalior you can hire a tourist cab to reach the park. You can even drive down from Agra tour or Delhi to Shivpuri and then onwards to the park. The nearest railway station is Jhansi located 101 Kms away. The Agra to Bombay National Highway-3 passes by the Park.

How to travel within the Madhav National Park

Traveling within the park is best done in an escorted four wheel drive jeep. Without your privately hired vehicle it is difficult to move around. Hire a vehicle form Shivpuri, Gwalior tourism or Jhansi.

What to see in the Madhav National Park

The major attraction is the flora and fauna around the two lakes inside the National Park . The Madhav sagar lake is inhabited by the Indian python, marsh crocodiles and the monitor lizards. The other lake is the Sakhya Sagar lake is an artificial lake created by building a dam. You can do boating here. This lake too is visited by many exotic species of birds that include the White - Breasted Kingfisher, the Pond Heron, Red Wattled Lapwing, and the Large Pied Wagtail.

Other places to see include the two palaces known as Baradaris that were built by the erstwhile maharaja of Gwalior. For viewing the flora and fauna from a majestic perch, you have two options viz., the Shooting Box built on the Sakya Sagar dam and the Bhura-kho tower deep in the forests. From these perches, depending on your luck, you can spot, tigers crocodiles and other wildlife like the wild boar, blackbuck, chinkara, sloth bear, jackal, four-horned antelope and hyena.

The Best Season to visit the Madhav National Park

The Park as with all parts of North India gets quite hot during the dry season. The best time to visit is between November to March during your India Tours .

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism runs the hotels, Motels and the Tourist Village in Shivpuri . Advance hotel booking is preffered. If these are booked, there are other private lodges too for your stay in Shivpuri.

What to eat in the Madhav National Park

At Shivpuri you can get typical North India Tourism fare. Do not miss out on the Parathas.
